For many decades thread rolling machines with planetary dies are the most productive machine tools for cold forming, especially for rolling of headed screws.

Planetary dies are composed of a roll and a segment, between which the nails are rolled. The roll is mounted on the thread rolling machine and rotates around its central axis. One segment is mounted next to it and fixed to the machine. The nails (with both the head and the point already made) are fed into the system from one side. When they come in contact with the moving roll they start to rotate and are transported in this way between roll and segment. Planetary dies greatly improves the production efficiency, compared with the  flat rolling dies and thread rolling dies.

This process is also usable for workpieces with higher tensile strength or for special nails or screws with heads. Even bigger dimensions for this 100% grinded dies can be ordered.

A big challenge is always grinding of outer segment dies. Their different radius designs on one hand is needed for feed on the other hand for forming of thread.

There are two main types of rolled nails: ring nails, which have a saw tooth profile, and screw nails, which have a fluted helical profile. Over the years, we have optimized the design of the tools and the production process and so can guarantee you faultless high-quality products.

Inherent Benefits of Planetary Dies

  • Consistent quality
  • Long life
  • Easily executable segment flip-over or change with minimal downtime and resetting requirements, due to interchangeable segments
  • Suitability for manufacturing in a wide range of materials – to meet diverse application specifications
  • Precisely controlled dimensions and carefully matched threads that ensure quick setup and uniform accuracy

UKO is an expert in designing and manufacturing planetary rolling dies. It uses all kinds of high-quality steel and is skillfully applied to high-performance thread processing dies. The produced thread roller is suitable for processing different types of threads. When helping customers analyze, they need to obtain all necessary technical information about this project, especially in the following aspects: part geometry, thread type, part material, type of threading machine, number of parts to be processed, etc. Welcome to have a contact any time for technical support and services.
